REGULATIONS
System and Dates
This tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in 10 rounds, from July 5th to July 14th, 2026. The pairings will be made with an accelerated system for the first 5 rounds according to the Baku regulations (C04.7 FIDE Handbook). The tournament is valid for international norms, as well as for FIDE rating.

Note: On the 14th, play will take place in the morning (at 09:00 hours).
Time Control
The rate of play will be 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from the first move.
Byes (Rest Days)
There will be free days if requested by the players. At the round requested, the player shall not be paired and no points shall be awarded. They must be requested to the arbiters’ team or the organizers in writing, and must include both the bye request and the player’s signature. Byes for the 1st and 2nd round must be requested before the 1st round in writing to the official e-mail address. For the rest of the rounds, the bye for a particular game may be requested before 8:00 pm on the day of the previous round.
Pairings
Round pairings will be published 6 hours before the start of the next round. Pairings will be posted in Hotel Aneto and in the playing hall (Benasque Sports Hall) as soon as possible. Besides, all information will be published at the official tournament website www.openajedrezbenasque.com. Pairings will be made with the program Vega and/or Swiss Manager. They will be also published on the website of ChessManager.
Venue and Access
The tournament will be played in the Benasque Sports Hall (PABELLÓN POLIDEPORTIVO DE BENASQUE). The official site of the tournament will be the SOMMOS Aneto Hotel. By Municipal and Government Order, it is strictly prohibited to bring any type of food or drink inside the playing hall. Smoking in the playing area is not allowed.
Delays and Defaults
Clocks will be started at the time specified for the beginning of each round. After 15 minutes of waiting from the time the round starts, all players who have not shown up at the board shall be considered to have forfeited the game. Exception: The default time for the first round is 1 hour.
Also, any player with white pieces not playing the first move or any player with black pieces not replying to the first move of white after 15 minutes since the beginning of the round shall be defaulted (except on the first round, in which the default time is one hour).
Any absence on two rounds or a non-justified absence of a player will result in the expulsion of the tournament. The organizing committee holds the right to expel any player being absent on the first round.
Electronic Devices and Anti-Cheating
It is not allowed to carry mobile phones or any other electronical devices to the playing venue, even though they are switched off. Articles 11.3.1, 11.3.2 and 11.3.3 will be applied strictly. Random security checks, with metal detectors, will be conducted in any part of the playing hall, including the smoking and toilets areas. They will be especially conducted at the entrance of the playing hall.
Any player using an electronical or communication device not authorized by the arbiter shall be automatically expelled from the tournament. FIDE Anti-cheating regulations will be applied throughout the whole tournament.
Player Conduct
Once the game is finished, the players shall leave the pieces and chairs as they found them in the first place. Players may not leave the game halls without justification or permission of an arbiter while in their games. In particular, they cannot go to their hotel rooms or access the analysis room before completing their games. Throughout the tournament players must show decent behaviour and fair-play, both inside and outside the playing hall.
Media and Broadcasting
The first boards will be broadcasted live, with delay. Pictures (without flash!) are allowed only in the first 15 minutes from the start of the games, except for the organizing team.
License Requirements
All Spanish players should have the required FEDA License. All players should have the required FIDE ID.
Fees and Deadlines
The Registration Fee will be paid to the Organisation by bank transfer, as instructed by the organisation in due course.
- General Registration: €70.
- Born in 2012 and later: €60.
- Players with FIDE Elo + 2450: Free (at the start of the tournament).
- GM, WGM, IM y WIM: Free.
- Aragonese License: €5 discount.
Registration Deadline
July 3rd at 22.00 CEST. In principle, only the first 600 registrations will be accepted (first come, first served principle). Only registrations made via the official form or website will be accepted.
Privacy and Health
Participation implies acceptance that personal details may be published (registration lists, results, pictures, etc.). The organizing team is not responsible for any medical assistance players might need. Participants must plan for their health care themselves.
Tie-break Systems
In case of a tie, the following tie-breaks will be used (if Direct Encounter cannot be applied, the order of the rest will be drawn):
- Tournament Performance Rating (TPR).
- Bucholz Total -2 (BH-C2).
- Average Performance Rating of Opponents (APRO).
- Average Buchholz of Opponents (AOB).
The tie-breaks will be applied according to the Vega program. For Buchholz, unplayed games will be treated according to the C.07 Tie-Break Regulations (as of August 1st, 2024). The order of the tie-breaks from 2nd to 5th will be drawn after the last round has finished.
Appeals
Appeals against arbiters’ decisions shall be filed to the Appeals Committee in writing no later than an hour after the incident, together with a deposit of 200 Euros. The decisions of the Committee shall be final. According to art. 11.10 of the FIDE Laws of Chess, a player can make no claims against a wrong result if he/she has signed that result on the scoresheet.
Appeals Committee
During the course of the first Round, the Organization will choose 4 players to form the Appeals Committee, preferably titled Arbiters, two of whom will be substitutes for conflicts involving a titular member. The Committee will be composed of:
- A member of the tournament direction or their delegate.
- A member of the Tournament Organization or their delegate.
- Two players from the tournament.
The Tournament Director will act as Chairman of this Committee, having a casting vote in the event of a tie.

Final Considerations
- This Tournament will be governed by these Regulations, the Laws of Chess, and the current FEDA and FIDE regulations, rules to which all participants are subject during the competition.
- Non-compliance with any of these Regulations may result in the loss of the game and/or even expulsion from the tournament.
- The definitive regulations will be those published in the Playing Hall, in the Spanish language.
- Participation in the tournament implies acceptance of these regulations.
